LEARNING FORWARD BC:  A MESSAGE FROM SUE ELLIOTT, PRESIDENT

May  2025

In these times of overwhelming demands on school districts and varied challenges being faced, we need to highlight and be thankful  positive nuggets of innovative practice that occur daily in our schools

Key Question

How might we lead with positive intention in these “dangerous times?”

At our recent board meeting we reflected upon the success of the offerings we have provided this year, fine-tuned the remaining sessions.

Book Club is over for the year!  Plan to join next year!
  • Andy Hargreaves  and Dennis Shirley joined our last Book Club May 5, leading us to ponder how our identity impacts who we are and how we work.  Facilitators:  Amelia Poitras, Principal, Burnaby School District, Trudean Andrews, LFBC Board of Directors, Sue Elliott, President, Learning Forward BC, Board of Directors will lead this sessionThis was a highly successful  high spirited session  with both the authors and our  Edcuators.
  • HERE IS A QUICK OVERVIEW of the last two sessions of  the Spring Term
  • Thought Leaders Session  Leadership in Dangerous Times, May 21: Guest:  Frederick Brown CEO Learning Forward Facilitators, Rod Allen, Denise Augustine, with BC Administrators will explore leadership practice that can make a difference and still keep people safe.

Be Part of our Survey

With Spring Break and Easter over, school districts are setting their schedules for next year. We are curious about the core issues requiring support in which Learning Forward BC’s cross role, cross district networking lens might support folks interested in and involved with planning and delivering quality professional learning.

We will be surveying members and reaching out to those who continually attend our sessions. As well, please leave a message on our website.

If you want to be part of our survey, contact us at info@learningforwardbc.ca  with you name and contact information.

In the context of well-being in challenging time, I was struck by this uplifting post that left me with food for thought:

TheTale to End Every Day

  • What am I thankful for?
  • What did I accomplish?
  • What did I learn?
  • Who did I Encourage, Educate or Empower?

Write and draw it every day, reflect on them every week, and use it for your sense of purpose and wellbeing.

Respectfully,

Sue Elliott

President,

Learning Forward BC
