Join Rod Allen and his panel as he interviews Frederick Brown, Learning Forward CEO with guest panel, Denise Augustine, Terea Downs, Superintendent Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows School District and Jana Fox, Assistant Superintendent in Bulkley Valley School District.
These current leaders continue to operate in challenging times, what do we need know that will support and keep us focussed on success in our current roles in Education?
ROD ALLEN: currently serves on the LFBC Board of Directors. Rod was one of the architects of British Columbia's education transformation, particularly its shift towards personalized learning. He has had various roles within the BC Ministry of Education, including Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Superintendent of Learning. He continues to work with organizations like the Aspen Institute, the World Bank, and the Harvard Graduate School of Education, further demonstrating his expertise in education reform on his regular Podcast Free Range Humans with Jal Mehta.

Fred advocates that every child deserves to reach their highest potential and every educator must have the opportunity to participate in exemplary, ongoing, professional learning programs to provide students the skills needed to meet their unique needs
DENISE AUGUSTINE: Denise Augustine, M.Ed, a First Nations woman of mixed ancestry, lives in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, the unceded lands of the hul’q’umi’num people. Denise just retired from a secondment with the Ministry of Education where she serves as the Superintendent of Indigenous Education. With over 30 years as an educator and a recipient of the Indspire Indigenous Educator Award for leadership, Denise is a passionate champion for systemic changes that support Equity for Indigenous learners
TERESA DOWNS: Superintendent of Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District
Currently Superintendent of Maple Ridge- Pit Meadows School District , Teresa Downs has In her provincial capacity, co-led the Management Standards Project with the Ministry of Education and Child Care, addressed rural education challenges as part of the Ministry’s Rural Task Force, and represented the BCSSA on various committees shaping educational policy
JANA FOX: Assistant Superintendent of Bullkley Valley School District
Currently Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Bulkley Valley School District. Jana has been Aboriginal Curriculum and Culture District Teacher for the Bulkley Valley School District and in her new role Jana is passionate about learning and problem solving with educators, students, and community to build and foster inclusive practices that nurture the growth and well-being of all students. Her work in story telling and her family stories from Blackfoot Reserve that tell about difficult decision making are inspiring.
