Join Rod Allen and his panel as he interviews Frederick Brown, Learning Forward CEO with a guest panel with Denise Augustine, Jill Jenson, Superintendent Gulf Island and Jana Fox, Assistant Superintendent in Bulkley Valley School District.
These current leaders continue to operate in challenging times, what do we need know that will support and keep us focused on success in our current roles in Education?
Join us for a presentation and conversations with:
ROD ALLEN: currently serves on the LFBC Board of Directors. Rod was one of the architects of British Columbia's education transformation, particularly its shift towards personalized learning. He has various roles within the BC Ministry of Education, including Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Superintendent of Learning. Allen also led the development of the transformed BC curriculum and established the Innovation Partnership in BC. He continues to work with organizations like the Aspen Institute, the World Bank, and the Harvard Graduate School of Education, further demonstrating his expertise in education reform.
FREDERICK BROWN: Learning Forward President and CEO
Fred is an education visionary who knows firsthand that our schools need transformational change if we are to meet the challenges of the next decades. Fred advocates that every child deserves to reach their highest potential and every educator must have the opportunity to participate in exemplary, ongoing, professional learning programs to provide students the skills needed to meet their unique needs
DENISE AUGUSTINE: Denise Augustine, M.Ed., a First Nations woman of mixed ancestry, lives in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, the unceded lands of the hul’q’umi’num people. Denise just retired from a secondment with the Ministry of Education where she serves as the Superintendent of Indigenous Education. With over 30 years as an educator and a recipient of the Indspire Indigenous Educator Award for leadership, Denise is a passionate champion for systemic changes that support Equity for Indigenous learners
JANA FOX: Assistant Superintendent of Bulkley Valley School District
Currently Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Bulkley Valley School District. Jana has been Aboriginal Curriculum and Culture District Teacher for the Bulkley Valley School District and in her new role Jana is passionate about learning and problem solving with educators, students, and community to build and foster inclusive practices that nurture the growth and well-being of all students. Jana holds an Education Doctorate from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge.
JILL JENSEN
Dr. Jill Jensen is the superintend of Gulf Islands School District in British Columbia. Jill’s primary focus over the last years has been on Indigenous education: infusing Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing across the curriculum and fostering reconciliation through implementing the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and working closely with the Secwepemc and Ktunaxa people, and the Metis association in the Columbia Valley. Jill was recently nominated for the Premier’s Award for Excellence in Indigenous Education.
