Learning Forward British Columbia and Learning Forward Ontario are inviting you to a Canadian Conversation on  the current state of professional learning In Canada

 

You are  invited  to join colleagues across jurisdictions and provinces to share your perspective on ways to impact quality professional learning as we refocus improvement to a transformation focus in Canadian education.

Date:  Thursday, May 11, 2023  Time:  7:00 - 8:30pm  ET      4:00-5:30 pm   PDT

Many of us who were involved with the Canadian Study on The State of Educators’ Professional Learning in Canada[2016], along with those currently interested in system change, wish to discover evidence of professional learning that is leading to transformation in our education system. What has occurred since the Call to Action: Bringing the Profession Back In [2016], by Michael Fullan and Andy Hargreaves?

 

The conversation will  explore what is occurring to support Educators in bringing about  long term system change that will meet the needs of  learners in Canada.  This conversation will  cover  a broad perspective  from Early Learning to Post Secondary!

 

Some questions to consider:

If equity is a driver, in what ways do we need to address transformation so that outcomes can be transformative?
 How are we influencing change as system leaders and those supporting  this era of professional learning?
  • What are the learning needs for our students to prepare them for their future?
  • What are the  are  skills and mindsets do you want to cultivate?
  • What is  the  focus for professional learning for your colleagues to bring about this transformation?
If we know the answers to these questions, why do we find it so difficult to do what will make a difference?

Session Agenda 

Introductions/land acknowledgement
An opening provocation - a conversation between two people to spark our thinking
A 4 person panel discussion as a response to the question:
As a community of Canadian educators:  How are the learning needs of students driving the professional learning needs of educators? How do we know?  Panel members will  be involved in  four different roles in education.
A break out room discussion  - What did we hear?  How does it relate to our own learning? What are our wonderings about professional learning needs and approaches?  We will ask each group to have one person who might highlight a couple of key points from the group discussion in a report back.
Reflections:  What are the parallels with other educator conversations including international ones?
Postscript comments/reflections by the panel.   What are they taking away - What are they wondering? Where do we go from here ?
